Motto and Logo Ideas? This is one of the first things we have to come up with.
Motto
Logo
Might sound goofy, but I like the idea of words that go together: dedication, investigation, communication, education, collaboration, etc. (See the Wordle I used on my Portrait of a Collaborator in the sidebar) I like the idea of a motto that has these words that demonstrate what we do as a librarian. Could even use a derivative of the words "Investigate, communicate, educate, collaborate" and connect it with something like "The Hometown Middle School Library: Student success through investigation, communication, education, collaboration." Maybe something like one of the Wordles that has these words in it could be our logo with "Student Success" at the center? Just a for starter idea. I am WIDE-OPEN to other ideas that might even be wittier. :) This is just an idea to get us started.

I found this on clip art.

Mary I like your motto idea. How about using all five you mentioned- "Student success through dedication, education, communication, investigation, and collaboration."
Logo idea 1: We could have a picture of a hand opening a door. Each finger could have a different word written on it. Our slogan could be: "Opening a door to your future."
Logo idea 2:spin off from yours Mary. We could have a hand with the words still written on them, but in its open palm, the word success. slogan "Putting success in students hands"
Or we could do the wordle.
Again, these are just a few thoughts. feel free to edit or delete them.

I LOVE logo idea #2! So cool with the word "Success" on the hand and the words on the fingers! Genius concept. Where could we fit the word "library" somewhere? In the motto? Above the hand? Any idea on how to draw this? My 12-year old son is a master at Sketch-up. I bet I could see what he could come up with. Anybody know any other logo making sites or are either of you artisitically gifted? :)

I like Molly's idea for the #2 logo. I will look on the web for logo sites. I have not used any in the past. What if we had the hand holding a book, or somehow incorporate a book into the logo. Maybe we could have the name of the library arching above the hand?

I think we could incorporate a book. Maybe have two hands holding a book with words on the longest fingers (or just plain hands). On the spine of the book could be the word success. Behind the book we could see the top of a head and maybe some eyes, but generic enough so that it could be any student. Above the picture we could have "library name is" and below the picture "putting success in students hands."
I am afraid with all of this we could get too text heavy. If we can't get the words on the fingers I think it will be okay as long as it is in our motto. I will ask the art teacher at my school tomorrow if he has any good art sites. He is always making our t-shirts with his own designs. If nothing else I could have him draw something up for us then I can scan the picture.

I really like all these ideas. Shame we can't do several and then choose the best. Am I CRAZY? Do several? (SLAP! SLAP!) Seriously, I think that the face in a "Success" book sounds great. I even think we could use the clipart you found, Renae. We could try to do some work on it to make it look middle-schoolish and keep it cool. If your art teacher friend can't help us, Molly, we can even browse through some other free picture sources, too. Maybe our motto could still incorporate the 5 words if you think it's not too wordy: "Student success through dedication, education, communication, investigation, and collaboration."

Motto is great- sorry I meant a too wordy logo. The art teacher gave the idea to her a couple of her students to do. When they finish I'll post them. I like the idea of having a couple and choosing the best.

Molly, thanks for getting your art teacher to look at it. I tech dept. has been out, so I have not been able to ask about the logo maker sites. I like Mary's motto idea. It sounds good to me

The art teacher said there wasn't a good site to use. He just creates his drawings and scans them. The students aren't finished but I did notice that what they were using was your clipart Renae. How funny is that. I did find another option so taht we could have two to decide from. I like either one.
